Title or short description:
Photograph included in a collection of letters to the actress Angela Baddeley. It shows Baddeley, Glen Byam Shaw, John Gielgud, Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh on the banks of river Avon in Stratford circa 1958.
Full description:This is a photograph of John Gielgud, Angela Baddeley, Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier and Glen Byam Shaw. It was likely taken during rehearsals for the 1958 season at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre. It may have been taken alongside publicity photographs for the season but does not appear in any publicity or newspapers at the time, and none of the people featured are facing the camera: suggesting it was taken unnofficially and then gifted to Baddeley. No clues as to the identity of the photographer are included among the letters or with the photograph itself.
